Every day Sharareh Ahmadzadeh is grateful. She was the recipient of a new heart just before her thirtieth birthday.
Doctors couldn’t figure out exactly why Sharareh’s heart was failing but the most reasonable explanation was that an unknown virus had attacked her heart.
“I had been diagnosed with at Dilated Cardiomyopathy 28, which then led to Advanced Heart Failure, and months of wondering whether I would survive.
“I was so fortunate to receive a new heart, thanks to the generosity of my donor and their family. Without them, I would not be here today,” says Sharareh.
Sharareh’s heart transplant took place in May 2012, and she has celebrated the gift of new life by commemorating her surgery at the HBF Run for a Reason for many years.
“This May will mark the sixth anniversary of my transplant and I am taking part in the HBF Run for a Reason to honour my donor and to celebrate this amazing gift of life,” she says.
This year, Sharareh will also be raising vital finds and awareness to support the Heart and Lung Transplant Foundation of W.A. – an organisation that helped her to recover after her transplant.
“I am running for the Heart and Lung Transplant Foundation of W.A. so that other patients who are currently suffering from chronic heart or lung diseases can have the best chance at life.
“Our organs and tissue will be of no use when we are gone. Please, please, please sign up to be an organ and tissue donor and let your loved ones know of your decision,” says Sharareh
